The One-Minute Therapy to Calm Your Messy Mind

Do you ever feel like your brain is a jumbled mess?

Yup, certainly been there.

Like thoughts are swirling around in there that you can’t quite grasp, and they’re driving you crazy?

If so, it’s probably time for a brain dump - the practice of writing down everything that’s going through your head, no matter how chaotic it may seem.

When you get all those thoughts out of your head and onto paper (or into a document on your computer), you’ll start seeing them in a new light.

You’ll gain some understanding of what’s going through your head, and you’ll be able to let go of any thoughts holding you back.

Yesterday I took a Dump!

I was having a rough fucking day - you know when it feels like everything is just way too much. A day you just wish would be over.

I finished work, took a deep sign, look at the comfy sofa and  got home from work and cried, trying to process everything, when I remembered just how helpful journaling could be.

But I didn’t want to journal. I didn’t feel like it.

So, I decided to brain dump.

I took pen to paper and wrote every thought that came up regarding recent incidents.

I literally just dumped everything that came to mind onto the paper. There were no judgments. No thinking. Just a pure, unadulterated brain dump.

Brain dump FBThe idea behind this?

NEVER take your emotional baggage forward.

Past experiences serve no other purpose than to teach you what you need to know to connect with your higher self.

The REAL you.

Brain dumping is a fantastic exercise that allows you to release and declutter your mind of all the negative thoughts that build up throughout your life, whether it’s over a day, a month or several years.

When these thoughts flood your mind, it can feel like you’re thinking a million thoughts a minute, which will only drive your brain into its anxious overthinking state. Instead, dumping everything down onto paper makes it tangible.

It can even provide clarity and insight into your life that you might not get otherwise.

And the more you write, the easier the words flow.

This brain dump had been a long time coming.

I must have filled 15-20 pages - both sides. And yes, it reminded me of the Rachel & Ross episode at the beach, which made me laugh.

When I finished, I read it just once to make sure I had everything.

Within these pages, I had created a safe space, took a deep breath in, and raised my arms over my head in a sweeping motion bringing my hands together to the top of my crown.

I slowly breathed out and let everything go, bringing both hands down, past my face, and to my heart in a prayer position.

I did this a few times until I felt grounded.

Okay, the next step even shocked me a little.

I lit the papers on fire in the kitchen sink.

Yes, this may seem a little extreme, but my God, it was therapeutic.

All the shit that had been playing on my mind the last few weeks literally went up in flames. Most of the stuff I had written down literally didn’t matter, and letting it go felt like such a massive weight off my chest.

I felt a sense of release from all the negative energy as the papers burned to ashes. My shoulders felt lighter, and I could feel a smile and the joy returning to my heart.

Today is a new day and a fresh start.

I was able to let go of the past.

Try Brain Dumping. Clear Your Mind

Grab a sheet of blank paper. Open a Word document. Spill your heart and soul into it through words. Don’t judge yourself. Don’t hold yourself back. Remember, it’s for clarity and understanding for yourself.

Ask yourself questions. Go deep. Remind yourself that no one needs to see this but you, and it’s for your eyes only. Create your own safe space. Question everything.

Why was my boss such an arsehole today? Why am I feeling so anxious all the time? Why do I feel the urge to contact my toxic ex? Am I looking after myself properly? Do I feel connected with myself? I do, but I also don’t. I’m dropping my routine. I should probably figure out why. Has something happened recently I’m ignoring?

Seek clarity.

Let go of anything that’s holding you back.

You deserve it.

Brain dumps are amazing, and I highly recommend them to anyone who feels like they need to clear their mind!

You can even try it now.

Set aside just one minute of your time and dump everything from your mind down into a notebook, blank piece of paper, or Word document. See how you feel. Be your own proof.

Let me know how it goes in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you. :)

Until next time, my friend. Take care! xo.
